If there was one big benefit from living in a place full of people, it was the constant access to things like food. This was something Emilie Martin was far from used to. It seemed like most of her life had been spent hunting and finding food - even before the souls took over the planet. She was good at it, and even enjoying it sometimes, but having food just available, in an open kitchen, whenever you wanted it...well, that was a pretty great deal.
It was early afternoon when Emilie wandered into the kitchen. She wore dark pants and a sage green tank top, her blonde hair falling loosely around her shoulders. Since it was a good distance between meals, no one was really around. People had gone out to search for food lately, so there was a nice bunch of apples sitting on one of the counters. The girl picked one up, examined it, and took a big bite. The sweet juice filled Emilie's mouth, and for a moment, she was in heaven. She couldn't remember the last time she had gotten her hands on an apple.
As she ate, the blonde walked slowly around the kitchen. She was still new to this place, still unsure of it for now. Being alone was something she was used to - she could depend on herself. Now, in this place, she would be asked to depend on other, and help those who weren't as strong as herself. It was an odd idea - an attempt at civilized life in the middle of a never ending apocalypse in which mankind was losing. Maybe for some of the people here, in this mostly ruined city, this was most of what the apocalypse had been like for them. Maybe they were content with their normal lives here, as the last shred of humanity in an alien world.
Thinking about it, Emilie wasn't sure she could ever be content with that.

It was incredible how a place with only two to three dozen of people could run out of fod so fast and easily! Which William, leader of the Hill rebels, realized several months before that day. Usually he went on raids with the raid team, but that day there were other matters that had to be taken care of, so he just stayed back and hoped for the best to happen, he silently prayed for them to come back safely. He had never been a religious man, but sometimes when he wasn't able to be with them and protect them, he tend to pray in his mind, almost absentmindedly.
He walked into the kitchen that day, He had made the list of everything that the kitchen needed to feed the people in the Hills. but he was hungry that morning, maybe the stress of knowing that people was away and in danger and he hadn't gone with them. He walked to the counter and grabbed an apple and also a piece of bread. it was already hard and he rather eat that one that the fresh on that the bakers would do that night for next morning's breakfast.
He sat at one of the irregular wooden tables and started writing on a note pad all what he needed to check and fix. Suddenly he saw a blonde walking in, she grabbed an apple and then looked as if something would explode at her face at any moment. He closed the pad and walked to where she was. "you're new in the hills, right?" he smiled at her. "I'm William Robinson, welcome to the Hills."

Having acquired the readily available food she had come for, Emilie noticed after a moment that the kitchen wasn't completely empty. A man sat at one of the tables, one who wasn't too hard on the eyes. Okay, so maybe there was more than one good thing about coming to this place. Before coming here, she didn't exactly run into any strapping young men of the marriageable age, as her mother might call it. They hadn't really run into other humans at all, actually.
Thinking of her mother made Emilie wonder what she might say if she were here. Neither Mom or Dad had really approved of any boyfriends she had before this apocalypse thing took off, but that's also mostly because they couldn't help evaluating how useful he'd be for survival. Since she hadn't been dating the jocks or the geniuses, they were never good enough.
Her eyes looked the man in front of her over. He was quite tall, which of course wasn't the best for hiding in small spaces, but quite well built, which means he'd be useful in a fight. His long legs suggested he was more of an endurance runner than a sprinter, which was more useful for keeping one step ahead of the enemy. Sturdy shoes, plain clothing that didn't seem too tight or too loose - perfect for easy movement on most terrains. He had quite the pretty face too...though that wouldn't have mattered too much to her parents, unless they started thinking about how adorable the future grandchildren would be. Yes, he probably would have scored pretty well on her parents' scale.
Emilie's green eyes watched the man walk over to her as she finished the delicious bite of apple she had taken. She smiled back at him when he introduced himself, though her smile was more for the very formal, welcoming committee type greeting he gave. Perhaps he was an important higher-up in this community of humans. She hadn't really asked around yet, but for any civilized human colony, there had to be one or two.
"Well, hello there Mr. William Robinson," she returned playfully. "Emilie Ann Martin, at your service." It almost seemed like a handshake was required after such an introduction, but he didn't offer and she was just fine with that. "I am a newbie here, though perhaps only a visitor. Haven't quite decided yet, to tell you the truth. Humans can be so...well, human, can't they?" She leaned against the counter. "So, what's your story, William Robinson?" she asked, taking another bite after she spoke.

William looked at the girl as she spoke, so she wasn't sure if she would stay in the hills or not. well at least in the hills people were still free, so if she didn't want to stay he wasn't going to force her, but there was a slight problem... if she was a wandering human and she ever got captured by a seeker, then well... that would be a problem and he wouldn't want to move away unless it was because the souls had left the Earth, so maybe he could... persuade her to stay around.
"Well, Emilie, it is a pleasure to meet you." he said with his well known freindly smile. "about staying or not, well, we would really apreciate a new member around in the hills, people needs to see a new face around, you know?" he chuckled when she spoke about people, she was right in many ways. "yes, people is still people, but also that is a good thing, in the hills people usually help each other, they welcome the new ones because those new ones are signs of hope, miracles some said once." He said and smiled at her a bit lees joyful and more seriously if a smile could be serious.
"My story... well, my family used to come to this hills to camp, but mybrother and I found this hills, this caves in the hills, we kept them as a secret, and now our small community lives perfectly safe in here, as long as none of us is captured alive by a seeker." he said and looked at her, it was his way of telling her to not leave the hills or she would put the people in there in danger.
OCC: Late but finally here!! XD

William Robinson seemed to want her to stay. Really, she highly doubted it was because she was such an interesting, strong human that could enhance the quality of life in these parts. His very body type told her that he was a survivor, maybe a protector, that wanted people to be safe. No, he figured he was hinting that she should stay here because from a survivalist's perspective, it was logical. No loose ends wandering around the world, threatening existence more than it was already threatened. Emilie could respect that...though, it didn't mean she was sold on the idea of sticking around.
"Miracles, huh?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. "I'm not a big believer in miracles. People survive in this world because they are either smart, strong, or have someone protecting them. But I suppose seeing new people are good for morale. I certainly didn't expect to find so many humans alive, together." It probably wouldn't be the best idea for Emilie to go on to say that she wasn't really interested in helping people. If she would have been helping people all along, she'd be dead years ago. Oh, she helped her parents, but they were always just as capable of taking care of themselves as they had taught her to be. Something told her that a great deal of these hill people weren't quite so strong.
The blonde took another bite of her apple as William went on to reveal a bit of himself. So he was a higher up in this community, or at least its founder. That explained a bit, and gave her a decent glance at what type of person he was. After all, not just anyone could be a leader. She certainly couldn't, unless her followers were up to the challenge. But it was kind of sweet that he and his brother found this place, and used it as a safe haven. She was tempted to ask if said brother was still around, but on the very likely chance that he wasn't, Emilie decided to hold that question off for a rainy day.
"I don't know about anything ever being perfectly safe in a world like this," she told him. "Don't think it exists, like those miracles. But I do know that I'll never be captured alive by a Seeker. I always have a back-up plan." Emilie patted the left pocket of her pants, and let him guess at the rest. Inside was a tiny pill with a very concentrated dose of arsenic. Killed in seconds. She was never without it. Hopefully he got the hint that she wasn't a threat if she left, though she also doubted it was enough to get him to completely trust her either. Maybe that would come though. She knew she could leave whenever she wanted, but she wanted a leave to be clean, without trackers or anyone after her.
Emilie smiled again, trying to take the edge off of the serious conversation. She pulled herself up to sit on the counter behind her but leaned forward, not minding if the top of her tank top was a little loose above her breasts. "But I wanted to hear more about you, William Robinson. I haven't really had people to talk to, and it sounds like you've got an interesting and challenging job here, leading all these people. What do you do around here? Do you still have family? A girlfriend? Kids? Or are you the type to do this thing on your own?"
((That's okay!))
